What is the longest amount of time you can comfortably go without picking up a book?

If I’m on a reading streak, then I pick up a book every day, and generally more than once. If I’m burned out, then I can go several days between picking up a book…but this is pretty rare.

How many books do you carry on your person (or kindle) at any one time?

I generally always have at least one physical book on me. I have about nine or ten audio books on my phone right now. I have absolutely no idea how many e-books I have…at least in the dozens. So, lots πŸ˜‚

Do you keep every book you buy/receive or are you happy to pass them on to make space for more?

I used to keep all of my books. Lately though, I have been far more willing to get rid of books because I have such a high volume of them coming in, and I’m running out of space!

How long would you spend in a bookshop on a standard visit?

Ooh, this varies. If I know what I want, then probably no more than 45 minutes. If I’m browsing, I could be there for at least a couple of hours.

How much time per day do you actually spend reading?

Here is a typical day for me (including work):

I tend to listen to an audiobook while I put on my makeup (approximately 15 minutes), then read while I eat my breakfast (30 minutes), listen to an audiobook driving to work (45 minutes), listen to audiobook while driving the flower delivery van at my job (2-3 hours), listen to audiobook driving home (45 minutes), read in the evening while hubby is playing video games with friends (1-2 hours), read while trying to fall asleep (30 minutes-1 hour).

So, in total, I typically read around 8 hours a day. If I’m not working, it would probably be more around 5-6 hours(taking out the audiobooks while driving, and adding in sitting around the house reading.)

Where does the task ‘picking up a book’ appear on your daily to-do list?

It only appears on my to-do list if I have a book I need to finish super quickly in order to write a review by a certain date. Otherwise, it isn’t something I need to be reminded to do…it’s something that keeps me from doing the stuff I should be doing πŸ˜‰

How many books do you reckon you own in total (including e-books)?

I have absolutely no idea, but I’m going to guess in the multiple hundreds, potentially close to 500 or so. Someday I’ll have to count them up.

Approximately how often do you bring up books in conversation?

I would more so now that I have a book blog. Before that, it might come up every so often, but not all of the time. I have a sufficiently wide range of interests haha

What is the biggest book (page count) you have finished reading?

Apparently, the longest book I’ve read (according to Goodreads) is The Count of Monte Christo by Alexander Dumas at 1,276 pages. It was a required reading book in high school.

Is there a book you had to get your hands on against all odds (i.e. searching bookshops, online digging, etc)?

Technically, the only book I have like this is one that was given to me as a gift, so I wasn’t even the one who did the work! But, it’s still a cool story. When I was in middle school, I was very close to my school librarian. We both loved the book Winter of Fire by Sherryl Jordan. If you have followed my blog for any length of time, you know that this is my favorite book. It is out of print, and the author lives in New Zealand. My librarian, when I was about to move on to high school, got me a copy of Winter of Fire from a publisher in New Zealand that had a picture of the main character, Elsha, on the cover that was drawn by Sherryl Jordan herself. That book is still one of my most prized possessions. πŸ™‚

A book you struggled to finish but refused to DNF?

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. This book is lauded by so many, and is one of my best friend’s favorite books. I just hated it. I pushed through, thinking that maybe it would redeem itself in the end. It didn’t.

What are 3 of your main book goals for 2018?

Well, seeing as 2018 is almost over, I’ll talk about what I have accomplished, and what I haven’t really accomplished. I have already surpassed my reading goal of 85 books for the year. I am over 100, and still going strong! I’ll be curious to see where I end up. I also had a goal to try to read at least one non-fiction book per month, but I think I’ve fallen off that wagon a bit. I certainly need to do better in that regard. I also need to try to read more of the books that I already own, which probably means I will be reading a lot more backlist next year than I did this year.

Have you ever had the privilege of converting someone into a reader (maybe via inspiration or incessant nagging)?

I think I have, but I’m not sure. If I have converted you into a reader, let me know in the comments!Β haha

Describe what books mean to you in five words.

Joy. Creativity. Escape. Imagination. Knowledge.
