1: What book has been on your shelves the longest?

I’m not sure how exactly to answer this question. Is this referring to the book I have owned the longest? Or the book that has been sitting in my TBR pile for the longest? The books I have owned the longest are probably the picture books that I saved for my daughter from my childhood…

2: What is your current read, your last read, and the book you will read next?

My Current Reads: An American Marriage by Tayari Jones and Code Name Helene by Ariel Lawhon

My Last Read: Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare (my mini-review here!)

My Next Read: probably Children of Virtue and Vengeance by Tomi Adeyemi ~or~ Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis

3: What book did everyone like, but you hated?

I have not been shy about my dislike of The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. I acknowledge that it was well written, but I absolutely could not stand the main characters, and I found the political climate of the story to be boring. I think I actually rated it kind of high at the time, but I feel like that was partly influenced by how everyone else was responding to the book. At this point, I would likely give it a 2 or 2.5 star rating. Here is my review of The Cruel Prince if you are interested.

4: What book do you keep telling yourself you’ll read, but you probably won’t?

There are a bunch of classics on my shelves that I keep telling myself I’ll read, but I never feel compelled to pick up.

5: Which book are you saving for retirement?

I’m not consciously saving any book for retirement. There are definitely books that I keep putting off reading, so I might not get to them until retirement haha (see the last question 😉 )

6: Last page: Do you read it first or wait to the end?

I wait until the end. I don’t like to be spoiled!

7: Acknowledgements: Are they a waste of paper and ink or interesting?

I definitely don’t think they are a waste of ink. I occasionally read the acknowledgements, generally when I have really enjoyed the book. But, they are not something that I read for every book.

8: Which book character would you switch places with?

I would possibly switch places with Elizabeth Bennet from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, but not for forever, because I think I would miss modern conveniences too much (i.e. indoor plumbing, hygiene, internet, tv, etc.)

9: Do you have a book that reminds you of something specific in your life?

I have a few signed books by Shauna Niequist, and they remind me of having my sister come visit so she could go to the signing with me. The other book signed by her reminds me of when I met someone, at the book signing, who is now a friend of mine – her books have given me both insight and relationship.

10: Name a book that you acquired in an interesting way.

My copy of my favorite book from my childhood was given to me by my middle school librarian, Ms. Jones. We both loved Winter of Fire and shared many moments discussing this beautiful book. She special ordered me a copy from New Zealand, because it is out of print and Sherryl Jordan is from New Zealand, and gave it to me when I was graduating from middle school to high school.

11: Have you ever given away a book for a special reason to a special person?

The only one I can think of is when I gave my pocket-sized Bible to a co-worker of mine who was going through some rough times and was starting to find her faith. After I gave it to her, she started coming to church with me, and it was beautiful to see her start to grow in her faith.

12: Which book has been with you the most places?

Probably my Bible. I used to take it with me every time I flew home from college. I haven’t taken it traveling as much lately, simply because it is big and heavy. But, it has gone a lot of places with me and will go to many more.

13: Any ‘required reading’ you hated in high school that wasn’t so bad two years later?

I don’t believe I have ever picked up any of the books that I hated in high school, because that seems like a waste of valuable reading time. Why would I re-read a book I hated?

14: Used or brand new?

I like both, but I prefer brand new.

15: Have you ever read a Dan Brown book?

No, I have not.

16: Have you ever seen a movie that you liked more than the book?

I liked the movie of Stardust by Neil Gaiman more than I liked the book. I still liked the book though!

17: A book that’s made you hungry?

Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe by Jenny Colgan was full of amazing sounding desserts!

18: Who is the person whose book advice you’ll always take?

My friends Taylor and Heidi tend to have very similar book taste to my own, so I usually listen to their recommendations more than others.

19: Most read authors?

According to Goodreads: Cassandra Clare, Tasha Alexander, J.K. Rowling, Jane Austen, Meg Cabot, Melanie Dickerson, Kathleen Morgan, Kelly Oram, and Jessica Sorensen.

20: Ship from two different books?

Controversially, I actually think that Mr. Knightley from Emma is the better Austen hero, so I feel like seeing Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Knightley together would be really interesting!
