Monthly Wrap-Up: September and October 2020

Hello everyone! My life was kind of crazy the past two months, and I apologize for being gone for so long. Things have finally settled down for me a bit, so hopefully I will be updating the blog on a more regular basis now. I am going to do a combination wrap-up post for both September and October, especially since I only read three books in October.

I read a total of 8 books in September and 3 books in October. I will talk more about why my count was so low in October in my Getting Personal section below.

I’m going to try to do things slightly differently this year. I am going to keep y’all updated on how my various book challenges are going in each of my monthly wrap-ups.

Things I Posted:

Book Review: The Orphan of Cemetery Hill

I am planning to start posting more regularly again!

Getting Personal:

So much has happened in the past two months. The biggest news is that we moved from Tennessee to Texas! We are now close to my family, which we are very excited about. We wanted my daughter to grow up close to her grandparents and aunts and cousins. We have been in our house for about two weeks now, and it is finally starting to really feel like ours. Needless to say, packing up our old house, moving across the country and settling into our new house has taken up all of my time. This is largely why I have been so absent here on the blog.

My daughter started in-person pre-school this week. This is opening up a lot more free time for me, which I hope to fill with things like updating this blog more often.

Also, I decided to withdraw from my graduate program. I realized that I did not want to be a school librarian, but rather a public librarian. The program I was in was solely focused on school librarianship, and I did not feel that I was getting the training and information I would need for my future career. I am currently looking for library positions that do not require a masters degree until I am able to potentially find a new masters program. With any luck, I will be working again soon.

My November TBR Pile:

Ember Queen by Laura Sebastian

Chasing Lucky by Jenn Bennett

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

How many books did you read this month? Have you read any of the books I read? Are you participating in any reading challenges? What about the books on my TBR for November? Let me know down in the comments!

Interested in my last wrap-up? Check it out here!

Love and happy reading,

Author:

Hello!! My name is Whitney, and I love books! I spend a huge amount of time reading (way more time than I should, if we are being perfectly honest!) I am currently in grad school getting my masters in Library Science in hopes of becoming a school librarian. I live in Texas with my husband, daughter, and my dogs, who are a total mess and generally are my reading buddies. I will probably share them with you, too. I also love to sing, hike, play The Sims, watch tons of YouTube videos, and drink creamy tea and coffee.

  1. I finished Clap When You Land this past week and LOVED it! The Orphan of Cemetery Hill by Hester Fox looks really interesting I am going to have to check it out. So glad you are happy and closer to your family, I know I would not want to be too far from mine. Best of luck finding a masters program that really suits you and a position as well.
