For twenty years Claire Randall has kept her secrets. But now she is returning with her grown daughter to Scotland’s majestic mist-shrouded hills. Here Claire plans to reveal a truth as stunning as the events that gave it birth: about the mystery of an ancient circle of standing stones about a love that transcends the boundaries of time …and about James Fraser, a Scottish warrior whose gallantry once drew a young Claire from the security of her century to the dangers of his…

The Late Bloomers’ Club by Louise Miller ~ 336 pages ~ published 7/17/18 by Pamela Dorman Books

Goodreads Synopsis:

A delightful novel about two headstrong sisters, a small-town’s efforts to do right by their community, and the power of a lost dog to conjure up true love

Nora, the owner of the Miss Guthrie diner, is perfectly happy serving up apple cider donuts, coffee, and eggs-any-way-you-like-em to her regulars, and she takes great pleasure in knowing exactly what’s “the usual.” But her life is soon shaken when she discovers she and her younger, free-spirited sister Kit stand to inherit the home and land of the town’s beloved cake lady, Peggy Johnson.

Mini Reviews: Stalking Jack the Ripper & Hunting Prince Dracula

In preparation for the third book in this series, Escaping from Houdini (which is being released on September 18th!), I just finished reading both Stalking Jack the Ripper and Hunting Prince Dracula! I know I am super late to this party, but I am so glad I finally decided to show up 😉

I am also hoping to have the trilogy read before the Southern Festival of Books because Kerri Maniscalco is going to be there!! Ok, I’m done fangirling now… I figured, since I read them both so close together, that I would do two mini reviews in one post!

Book Review: My Lady Jane

My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows ~ 491 pages ~ published 6/7/16 by HarperTeen

Goodreads Synopsis:

Edward (long live the king) is the King of England. He’s also dying, which is inconvenient, as he’s only sixteen and he’d much rather be planning for his first kiss than considering who will inherit his crown…

Jane (reads too many books) is Edward’s cousin, and far more interested in books than romance. Unfortunately for Jane, Edward has arranged to marry her off to secure the line of succession. And there’s something a little odd about her intended…

Gifford (call him G) is a horse. That is, he’s an Eðian (eth-y-un, for the uninitiated). Every day at dawn he becomes a noble chestnut steed—but then he wakes at dusk with a mouthful of hay. It’s all very undignified.

Mary B: An Untold Story of Pride and Prejudice by Katherine J. Chen ~ 336 pages ~ published 7/24/18 by Random House

Goodreads Synopsis:

The overlooked middle sister in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice casts off her prim exterior and takes center stage in this fresh retelling of the classic novel.

I will tell you the story of how I knew myself to be plain and therefore devoid of the one virtue which it behooves every woman to have.
