August & September Subscription Boxes: OwlCrate and The Book(ish) Box

August and September kind of snuck past me, and I never posted anything about the subscription boxes I got! Whoops! So, I am going to do a giant, combined post today. I ended up doing OwlCrate (as per usual), and The Book(ish) Box for both August and September. If you are interested in subscribing to OwlCrate, you can use my code.

August OwlCrate: Ruthless Royals

IMG_2509The theme for the August OwlCrate was Ruthless Royals. I was pretty sure that I knew what book was going to be inside (…spoiler alert, I was right 😉 )

IMG_2511

The first thing I pulled out was this beautiful gemstone ring from GeoCentral. It is made of agate stone, and it’s adjustable so it will fit my fat fingers haha

IMG_2512

This pocket mirror was designed by Catarina Book Designs. It is inspired by The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton. I am currently on hold for the audiobook from the library, so I will hopefully get to listen to it soon!

IMG_2514

These little magnetic bookmarks by Craftedvan are so cute! The other side has their evil alter-egos on them, and I can’t wait to use them.

IMG_2515

While this book tin is inspired by The Cruel Prince by Holly Black (which I did not care for), the tin itself is absolutely amazing! It was designed by Stella Bookish Art. It currently houses the book submissions for my book club.

IMG_2517

There was also a tea towel inspired by the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas. I have not read this series…and I’m not sure if I’m going to. It was designed by Little Inklings Design.

IMG_2519

And August’s book was Grace and Fury by Tracy Banghart! Here is the Goodreads synopsis:

In a world where women have no rights, sisters Serina and Nomi Tessaro face two very different fates: one in the palace, the other in prison.

Serina has been groomed her whole life to become a Grace – someone to stand by the heir to the throne as a shining, subjugated example of the perfect woman. But when her headstrong and rebellious younger sister, Nomi, catches the heir’s eye, it’s Serina who takes the fall for the dangerous secret that Nomi has been hiding.

Now trapped in a life she never wanted, Nomi has only one way to save Serina: surrender to her role as a Grace until she can use her position to release her sister. This is easier said than done. A traitor walks the halls of the palace, and deception lurks in every corner. But Serina is running out of time, imprisoned on an island where she must fight to the death to survive and one wrong move could cost her everything.

I knew this was going to be the book for this box! I held off on buying it since I had a feeling I would be getting one anyway 🙂 I also really love the OwlCrate exclusive cover. It came with an exclusive bookmark and, as always, it comes signed and with a letter from the author.

If you are interested in subscribing to OwlCrate, you can use my code! I would highly suggest you do so, as it is my favorite box!

August The Book(ish) Box: Lady Monarchs

IMG_2522

This was my first month trying out The Book(ish) Box. I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but I was excited to find out!

IMG_2523

The first thing I pulled out was this adorable queen sleeping mask, made by The Bookish Shop.

IMG_2525

These wall art and photo prop butterflies are also made by The Bookish Shop. I thought they were really pretty, and I can definitely see myself using them in my Instagram photos.

IMG_2526

This wooden bookmark is inspired by Cersi from Game of Thrones. It was designed by Hello World Paper Co.

IMG_2527

This floral notebook was also designed by The Bookish Shop. It is the perfect size to stick in your bag on the go.

IMG_2530

This cute little pocket mirror was designed by The Bookish Shop as well. It is open on the other side, not a compact.

IMG_2537

This was my favorite thing from this box, a throw pillowcase, inspired by Jasmine from Aladdin, also designed by The Bookish Shop. It is currently sitting in my favorite reading chair in my office 🙂

IMG_2533

I ordered the t-shirt box upgrade, and got this Throne of Glass inspired shirt designed by Ink and Wonder. I keep getting items from this series, but I am just not that interested…

IMG_2538

And the book from the August The Book(ish) Box is Heart of Thorns by Bree Barton. Here is the Goodreads synopsis:

In the ancient river kingdom, touch is a battlefield, bodies the instruments of war. Seventeen-year-old Mia Rose has pledged her life to hunting Gwyrach: women who can manipulate flesh, bones, breath, and blood.

Not women. Demons. The same demons who killed her mother without a single scratch.

But when Mia’s father suddenly announces her marriage to the prince, she is forced to trade in her knives and trousers for a sumptuous silk gown. Only after the wedding goes disastrously wrong does she discover she has dark, forbidden magic—the very magic she has sworn to destroy.

I was a little worried that I would get the same book in both August boxes, as their themes were very similar, so I was really excited when I pulled this one out instead! I’ve been wanting to read it as well, so I lucked out big time on my August boxes.

September OwlCrate: Masters of Disguise

IMG_2606

I thought that I knew what the book for the September OwlCrate box was going to be, but I was wrong this time. Regardless, I was excited to see what else was inside.

IMG_2607

I’m always so happy when I get a new mug from OwlCrate! They are really great quality, and this one is inspired by Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which is one of my favorites! It was illustrated by Cara Kozik. It apparently has each of the marauders hiding on it somewhere 🙂

IMG_2609

This foaming bath soak was made by Leeloo Soaps. It was inspired by The Diabolic, which I had never heard of before, but the soak smells great!

IMG_2610

I was so excited when I pulled out this chapstick by GeekFireLabs! I still use the last one that I got from an OwlCrate box, so I’m sure this one will be just as great. It is inspired by The Kiss of Deception, which has been on my TBR for a looooong time.

IMG_2611

These fingerless gloves are going to come in handy when the weather starts to cool down (which, seriously, would be lovely…any day now…). I believe they are inspired by Six of Crows, which is also on my TBR, and they were designed by OwlCrate.

IMG_2612

This nail polish, inspired by Grim Lovelies, is called Tricks and Whispers, and it is so pretty!!

IMG_2614

And the September OwlCrate book is Mirage by Somaiya Daud. Here is the Goodreads synopsis:

In a star system dominated by the brutal Vathek empire, eighteen-year-old Amani is a dreamer. She dreams of what life was like before the occupation; she dreams of writing poetry like the old-world poems she adores; she dreams of receiving a sign from Dihya that one day, she, too, will have adventure, and travel beyond her isolated moon.

But when adventure comes for Amani, it is not what she expects: she is kidnapped by the regime and taken in secret to the royal palace, where she discovers that she is nearly identical to the cruel half-Vathek Princess Maram. The princess is so hated by her conquered people that she requires a body double, someone to appear in public as Maram, ready to die in her place.

As Amani is forced into her new role, she can’t help but enjoy the palace’s beauty—and her time with the princess’ fiancé, Idris. But the glitter of the royal court belies a world of violence and fear. If Amani ever wishes to see her family again, she must play the princess to perfection…because one wrong move could lead to her death.

I had actually never heard of this book before, which was a fun surprise! I am excited about it now though!

September The Book(ish) Box: Rebels at Sea

IMG_2633

I had absolutely no idea which book to expect from this box, but I was definitely looking forward to what ocean themed items might be included!

IMG_2618

I have yet to try this decaf berry tea from Beantown Tea and Spices, but it sounds delicious!

IMG_2619

I absolutely love this little collector enamel pin, designed by Dust & Pages. It was inspired by A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab, yet another series on my TBR!

IMG_2620

This set of precious socks made me squeal a little bit! They are designed by @kimcarlika.

This mermaid spoon and straw were such fun additions to this box! They were designed by The Bookish Shop.

IMG_2626

I opted to get the t-shirt upgrade again, and I absolutely love it!! It is inspired by Peter Pan, and was designed by The Bookish Shop. It combines my love of books, tea, and comfort, so it is my new favorite thing 😉

IMG_2627

The September The Book(ish) Box book was Seafire by Natalie C. Parker. Here is the Goodreads synopsis:

After her family is killed by corrupt warlord Aric Athair and his bloodthirsty army of Bullets, Caledonia Styx is left to chart her own course on the dangerous and deadly seas. She captains her ship, the Mors Navis, with a crew of girls and women just like her, who have lost their families and homes because of Aric and his men. The crew has one mission: stay alive, and take down Aric’s armed and armored fleet.

But when Caledonia’s best friend and second-in-command barely survives an attack thanks to help from a Bullet looking to defect, Caledonia finds herself questioning whether to let him join their crew. Is this boy the key to taking down Aric Athair once and for all . . . or will he threaten everything the women of the Mors Navis have worked for?

I had heard of this book, but completely forgotten about it. It sounds fantastic!

IMG_2630

I will say, I was a little bit disappointed because I was apparently supposed to receive a “Second Star to the Right” twinkle light kit…which was very decidedly not in my box 😦

I hope you enjoyed my many unboxings! I will be back here next month to talk about my October subscription boxes so make sure you follow me to be notified when it goes up!

July Subscription Box: OwlCrate

It’s time for another monthly unboxing! I subscribe to OwlCrate, which is a subscription box for YA book lovers. It always has fun, bookish goodies, as well as a book that has been signed by the author. It also generally has an OwlCrate exclusive cover. Basically, if you love getting great new books and fun bookish things for your home/person, you should try out OwlCrate!

July OwlCrate: Strange & Unusual

IMG_2347

The theme for this month’s box was Strange & Unusual. I honestly had no clue what book this might be, and I was a little bit nervous because I am the biggest scaredy cat you will ever meet, and I didn’t know if everything in the box was going to be scary 😱IMG_2348

The first thing I pulled out of the box was this cute little pennant flag designed by Risa Rodil. It was inspired by Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs, which I have never read and never plan to because I am a huge weenie 😉

IMG_2349

Next was this little Funko POP keychain of Dustin from Stranger Things. Again, I have never watched Stranger Things, nor will I, but my husband does! So this keychain is his now!

These Ouija board mints, from Boston America Corp., were are cute nod to the theme of the box. This set of skull push pins were designed by Team OwlCrate, and they are very cute.

This beautiful wallet was designed by Reverie and Ink! It is inspired by The Raven Boys series by Maggie Stiefvater. Yet again, I’ve never read these books, but I do intend to at some point. I’ve heard too many people go on about how much they love this series!

This Luna Lovegood sticker, designed by TJ Lubrano, made me so happy when I pulled it out of the box! And this art print, designed by Aun-Juli Riddle, is absolutely gorgeous!

IMG_2356

And this month’s book was My Plain Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows! It is the 2nd book in the Lady Janies series! Here is the Goodreads synopsis:

You may think you know the story. After a miserable childhood, penniless orphan Jane Eyre embarks on a new life as a governess at Thornfield Hall. There, she meets one dark, brooding Mr. Rochester. Despite their significant age gap (!) and his uneven temper (!!), they fall in love—and, Reader, she marries him. (!!!)

Or does she?

Prepare for an adventure of Gothic proportions, in which all is not as it seems, a certain gentleman is hiding more than skeletons in his closets, and one orphan Jane Eyre, aspiring author Charlotte Brontë, and supernatural investigator Alexander Blackwood are about to be drawn together on the most epic ghost hunt this side of Wuthering Heights.

I just finished reading My Lady Jane, so this was impeccable timing!! I am so excited to dive into this book, partly because the first book in the series was fantastic, and also because I am a huge fan of Jane Eyre!

IMG_2357

I enjoyed the July Strange & Unusual OwlCrate box! It wasn’t my favorite I’ve gotten, but it was still a lot of fun! If you are interested in getting your own OwlCrate box, you can use my link to get started!

If you would like to check out my last few unboxings, you can check them out here and here!
