Mini Reviews // Second Half of August

This year I started writing mini-reviews over on my Instagram whenever I finish a book. It has been a really great way of remembering more about my thoughts on a book and why I gave it the star rating I did. So, I thought it would be good practice to corral those mini-reviews into one place twice a month so that all of you can take a peek at what I’ve been reading and see my thoughts on each book.

I’m a little late for the second half of August, please forgive me! Life is crazy right now!

House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas (Finished on August 22)

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 1/2

Book 76: I went into this book knowing that it starts off a little slow, and I’m glad I did because I might have set it down. When it finally got past the political and world-building set up, I was totally hooked! I got really invested in the story, and I fell in love with Bryce and Hunt ❤️ Sarah J Maas is the master of the slow burn! Now I really want to see what happens in the next one!

Lady Betrayed by Tamara Leigh (Finished on August 23)

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Book 77: This book was a bit of a let down for me. It is a medieval Christian romance, of which I have read many before that were great. I found out after the fact that this series was a rewrite by the author of books she had originally written with no Christian overtones. It did not translate well to this particular story. I was frustrated by the characters a majority of the time. It was decent, but nothing to write home about.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (Finished on August 24)

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Book 78: Honestly, for pure nostalgia’s sake, I have to give this 5 stars. It was one of the books that got me into reading YA. Sure, it is way cheesier than I thought it was when I read it the first time, but I will always be a Twilight fan ❤️

Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer (Finished on August 26)

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 1/2

Book 79: I will say that this was definitely worth the wait! I loved getting to hear this story from Edward’s perspective. I’ve always been Team Edward 😍 My only complaint would be that sometimes it went into a little bit too much detail and I wanted them to just get on with the story. Otherwise, chefs kiss 😘

Scythe by Neal Shusterman (Finished on August 27)

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Book 80: I really liked this book. I don’t read a ton of dystopian, but I really do want to continue this series. I liked the characters and the storyline consistently surprised me. There were parts that I found a little slow, so that lowered my rating, but I am still excited to continue with it.

Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie (Finished on August 31)

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Book 81: I haven’t read an Agatha Christie book since middle school, and now I want to dive into all of them! I absolutely did not see this ending coming. I loved seeing the investigative process unfold. It flew by in the best way possible!
