There are so many amazing sounding books coming out this year! I am so excited for them, and I wanted to share with you the ones that I’m looking forward to the most.
This month I read a total of 11 books! I have been consistently reading around 11 or 12 books a month the past couple of months, and I think this is a pretty respectable number. It is nowhere near what I was reading at the beginning of the year, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep up that crazy pace!
While I am aiming for 150 books this year, I am also aiming to diversify my reading. I am trying to break into genres I don’t typically gravitate toward. I am hoping to read more non-fiction and classics. And, as always, I am taking part in several reading challenges.
Let’s get into it!
My Contrary Mary by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows ~ 512 pages ~ to be published on June 22, 2021 by HarperTeen
Welcome to Renaissance France, a place of poison and plots, of beauties and beasts, of mice and . . . queens?â €
â €
Mary is the queen of Scotland and the jewel of the French court. Except when she’s a mouse. Yes, reader, Mary is an Eðian (shapeshifter) in a kingdom where Verities rule. It’s a secret that could cost her a head—or a tail.â €

Luckily, Mary has a confidant in her betrothed, Francis. But after the king meets a suspicious end, things at the gilded court take a treacherous turn. Thrust onto the throne, Mary and Francis are forced to navigate a viper’s nest of conspiracies, traps, and treason. And if Mary’s secret is revealed, heads are bound to roll.
This month I read a total of 16 books! I have been on fire these past two months, and I’m hoping this will continue to be the trend. I’m a little worried that I’m going to burn myself out, but I guess that’s future me’s problem 😂

I decided that this year I would like to try my hand at participating in Top Ten Tuesday, a meme that was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This week the topic is the books you meant to read in 2020, but you didn’t get to, for whatever reason. I have a ton of books that I fully intended to get to last year, but for one reason or another never did. Here are the ten that are sitting on my library cart right now (as I fully intend to try to get to them first this year!):
I have seen a ton of Booktube channels doing the Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag, and it made me want to give it a go!
I realize we are a bit past “mid-year” by now, but I was kind of on an unofficial hiatus when “mid-year” hit, so I am doing it now! This seemed like such a fun way to talk about the books I have read so far this year, especially since there were a few months where I didn’t post anything here.
