I found this tag through Lost In A Story and Fire and Rain Books, and I thought that it sounded like it would be a lot of fun! (Make sure to go check out their blogs, they are fabulous!) I’m always curious about how others choose/find their books, so I figured I would share with you how I find mine! So, without further ado, let’s do this thing!

How I Choose My Books Tag

Find a book on your shelves or e-reader with a blue cover. What made you want to pick up this book?

I picked up The Invisible Bridge by Julie Orringer first because of the cover. I am a sucker for any book that is set in Europe. Then I read the description and I was hooked. I am also a sucker for historical fiction. If you like a good WWII novel, I would certainly give this one a try!

Think of a book you didn’t expect to enjoy, but did. Why did you read it in the first place?

I never thought that I would like Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. My mom always said it was her favorite book when I was growing up, but I never saw her reading it, and the few covers I saw of it looked like it was some cheesy romance novel. So, I never picked it up. Then our book club at the bookstore decided to read it one month last year. I LOVED IT!! It is so good! I would recommend this to anyone now, and it is certainly not a cheesy romance novel haha

Stand in front of your bookshelf with your eyes closed and pick a book at random. How did you discover this book?

This book was recommended to me by a dear friend of mine who loves reading just as much as I do (if not more!) A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness is such an amazing start to an amazing series. It is fantasy (I’m talking witches, vampires, daemons, the works!), but it also throws in a healthy helping of science and history. So, so, so good! Also, that same friend and I got to meet Deborah Harkness at a book event she did at the Nashville Public Library (we accidentally snuck up on her and surprised her, although I like to think that she was just really excited to see us!) What the heck, I’ll include the picture right here!

Pick a book that someone personally recommended to you. What did you think of it?

English Lessons by Andrea Lucado was recommended to me by one of my co-workers at the bookstore. It is about Andrea Lucado (daughter of Max Lucado) and her year studying abroad in England and how this challenged and strengthened her faith. This was right in my wheelhouse, and I really liked it. She came to do an event at the store soon after I read it, so I have even gotten it signed now!

Pick a book that you discovered through booktube/book blogs.

Well, I can’t say I exactly discovered this book through booktube, but I definitely didn’t pick it up to actually read it until I saw a LOT of booktubers talk about it. The Hate U Give, once I finally read it, has turned into one of the best books I have read this year so far! Keep an eye out, because I will be posting a book review for it here on the blog soon!

Find a book with a one word title. What drew you to this book?

As I have stated in the past, I love fairytale retellings. So, I picked up Beauty by Robin McKinley because it was obviously a retelling of Beauty and the Beast (which just so happens to be my favorite Disney movie – I want to be Belle!) I liked it pretty well. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves fairytales like I do!

What book did you discover through a film/tv adaptation?

 

It would definitely have to be Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. It is extremely rare for me to watch a movie or tv show before reading the book that it is based off of. I am very much a “the book is so much better than the movie” kind of person. But I really had not intended to actually read Perks of Being a Wallflower, so I figured I could watch the movie with no harm done. That movie though! It made me want to read the book! That is rare, but apparently it happens 🙂

Think of your all time favorite book. When did you read it and why did you pick it up in the first place?

I am beating a dead horse at this point, (with my other blog post and all of my Instagram love for it) but my love for this book knows no bounds! My all time favorite book is Winter of Fire by Sherryl Jordan. I read it for the first time when I was in middle school…I believe in the 7th grade. I picked it up originally because I thought the cover was cool, but then I read the description. I am always down for a book with a hardcore female main character! Elsha is my role model.
