I have always been a huge fan of musicals. Ever since I can remember, I have adored them, sang along to them, and performed in them. So, today I thought I would post a song that has always meant a lot to me, and never fails to make me cry.

Wicked is one of my favorite musicals of all time. It was at peak popularity when I was in high school, and the song For Good was very special to me at the time. I sang it with one of my best friends at several of the senior events my senior year of high school. It is about parting, but knowing that someone has made a permanent mark on your heart and your soul. For Good is beautiful, poignant, and a serious tear-jerker.

(Also, sorry but not sorry for this video. I only began to watch it just now and I already started tearing up haha)

I’ve heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason

Bringing something we must learn

And we are led to those who help us most to grow

If we let them, and we help them in return

Well, I don’t know if I believe that’s true

But I know I’m who I am today because I knew you…

Like a comet pulled from orbit as it passes the sun

Like a stream that meets a boulder halfway through the wood

Who can say if I’ve been changed for the better?

But because I knew you…I have been changed for good

It well may be

That we will never meet again in this lifetime

So let me say before we part

So much of me is made of what I learned from you

You’ll be with me like a handprint on my heart

And now whatever way our stories end

I know you have re-written mine by being my friend

Like a ship blown from its mooring by a wind off the sea

Like a seed dropped by a skybird in a distant wood

Who can say if I’ve been changed for the better?

But, because I knew you…

Because I knew you…

I have been changed for good

And just to clear the air, I ask forgiveness

For the things I’ve done you blame me for

But then I guess we know there’s blame to share

And none of it seems to matter anymore…

Like a comet pulled from orbit (Like a ship blown from its mooring)

As it passes the sun (By a wind off the sea)

Like a stream that meets a boulder (Like a seed)

Halfway through the wood (Dropped by a bird in the wood)

Who can say if I’ve been changed for the better?

I do believe I have been changed for the better

And, because I knew you…

Because I knew you…

Because I knew you…

I have been changed….for good

Love and happy reading (and singing!),

Author:

Hello!! My name is Whitney, and I love books! I spend a huge amount of time reading (way more time than I should, if we are being perfectly honest!) I live in Nashville with my husband and my two dogs, who are a total mess and generally are my reading buddies. I will probably share them with you, too. I also love to sing, play guitar, hike, play The Sims, watch tons of YouTube videos, and drink creamy tea and coffee.

  1. I’m sorry i’m only seeing this. I’ve been feeling so unmotivated these past few days,… Anyway, thank you so much for the tag Whitney. 💖 I’ve heard this song but haven’t really paid attention to the lyrics. Thank you so much for sharing it. I love it. 💖💖
