Mini-Reviews // November 2020

This year I started writing mini-reviews over on my Instagram whenever I finish a book. It has been a really great way of remembering more about my thoughts on a book and why I gave it the star rating I did. So, I thought it would be good practice to corral those mini-reviews into one place twice a month (whenever I think about it haha) so that all of you can take a peek at what I’ve been reading and see my thoughts on each book.

The Kingdom of Back by Marie Lu (Finished on November 5)

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 1/2

Book 93: I am always here for a book about music, and this fantasy about Mozart’s forgotten sister delivered. It was certainly an interesting commentary on how women’s rights have truly evolved since this time in history (demonstrated beautifully by events in recent days ☺️) The thing that brought the rating down for me was the wealth of frustrating decisions and thoughts by the main character. She frustrated me often. Still, this was a great book of possible history.

Chasing Lucky by Jenn Bennett (Finished on November 8)

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Book 94: This is my first book by Jenn Bennett and I am now excited to read her other books! This was a super cute contemporary romance, but it also had some nice depth with some family drama. A great little friends to lovers romance. (Check out my full review of this book here!)

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan (Finished on November 12)

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Book 95: This is a series that I have been curious about for a long while, but have never picked up. I really liked it! It was funny, and I learned a lot about Greek mythology (which I didn’t expect). I am now excited to continue with the series!

Fingersmith by Sarah Waters (Finished on November 26)

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 1/2

Book 96: I was consistently surprised by this book. It had so many plot twists that I did not see coming. My main complaint about it was that it was probably about 150 pages longer than it needed to be. I would be interested in reading another book by her though.

Ember Queen by Laura Sebastian (Finished on November 27)

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Book 97: I have really enjoyed this series. I liked how this final book tied everything up. I wish that we had gotten a bit more character development and a bit less war strategy, but that is just personal preference. I am excited to read whatever Laura Sebastian has coming next!
