This is something that I have been noticing for a long time. Why do all historical fiction covers look the same? What is it about having someone facing away that seems to captivate fans of the genre? Does seeing a cover like this make you more likely to buy it? I saw this display at my local Target, and it made me laugh. Then it made me curious to look at my own shelves at home!

I looked at the historical fiction covers on my own shelves and found the same trend. However, there are some additional trends that I found upon further inspection!

There were several where the people were facing the viewer.

Several where people were facing the viewer, but their heads were cut off haha

And even some where the body was facing away, but the face was not. A little half and half action 😉
It is quite interesting to see the different trends! Which covers look most appealing to you? Do you gravitate to any more than the others? Let’s chat down in the comments!
Love and happy reading,
