Book Review: Mysteries of Thorn Manor

Mysteries of Thorn Manor by Margaret Rogerson (Sorcery of Thorns, #1.5) ~ 192 pages ~ to be published on January 17, 2023 by Margaret K. McElderry Books

Goodreads Synopsis:

In this sequel novella to Sorcery of Thorns, Elisabeth, Nathaniel, and Silas must unravel the magical trap keeping them inside Thorn Manor in time for their Midwinter Ball!

Elisabeth Scrivener is finally settling into her new life with sorcerer Nathaniel Thorn. Now that their demon companion Silas has returned, so has scrutiny from nosy reporters hungry for gossip about the city’s most powerful sorcerer and the librarian who stole his heart. But something strange is afoot at Thorn Manor: the estate’s wards, which are meant to keep their home safe, are acting up and forcibly trapping the Manor’s occupants inside. Surely it must be a coincidence that this happened just as Nathaniel and Elisabeth started getting closer to one another…

With no access to the outside world, Elisabeth, Nathaniel, and Silas – along with their new maid Mercy – will have to work together to discover the source of the magic behind the malfunctioning wards before they’re due to host the city’s Midwinter Ball. Not an easy task when the house is filled with unexpected secrets, and all Elisabeth can think about is kissing Nathaniel in peace. But when it becomes clear that the house, influenced by the magic of Nathaniel’s ancestors, requires a price for its obedience, Elisabeth and Nathaniel will have to lean on their connection like never before to set things right.

What I Thought:

*I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you so much to NetGalley and Margaret K. McElderry Books for this ARC!*

Sorcery of Thorns was one of my favorite reads a couple of years ago, so I was very excited when I got the opportunity to read this sequel novella! I love the relationships between Elisabeth, Nathaniel, and Silas. It was so much fun to get to dive back into this world again for a short while.

I enjoyed getting to explore Thorn Manor on a more focused level in this novella. Getting to discover more about Nathaniel’s past, as well as Silas’, was a lot of fun as well. I enjoyed learning more about their history and seeing how it contributed to the people they became. It also gave really cozy vibes, what with them all being trapped inside and it being winter.

Seeing the relationship between Elisabeth and Nathaniel develop into something deeper made my heart happy. I loved seeing the beginning of their love story in Sorcery of Thorns, so seeing them continue to be happy together here was just what the doctor ordered.

I don’t want to say too much and give away any important plot points. So, I will conclude this review by saying, if you enjoyed Sorcery of Thorns, you will really enjoy Mysteries of Thorn Manor. I’m hoping this is an indicator of the series continuing from here!

My Rating:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
